#WhereIWrite

Hey writers, where do you write?

The office? The coffee shop? A cold, dark basement, away from the world outside? I always find it interesting to see where other authors do their best creating. I so wish I could do the coffee shop thing, but I'm too easily distracted. And my neighborhood java joint had the audacity to move out of the neighborhood, lured by the bright lights of downtown. (Yeah, I'm talkin' to you, Daily Cup!)

Generally, most of my work is done at my desk, in my quaint, little corner nook. There isn't much to my desk, which is placed in the corner of my bedroom because the office was taken over by the paraphernalia of two orange cat sisters. Just a lamp and my laptop is all I need, as you can see in the photo above.

Sometimes, when I'm feeling adventurous, I'll move into one of the more public areas of the house, like the dining room table or the living room sofa, as you can see here.

But that leaves me open to a visit from one of the aforementioned felines, who don't grasp the concept that I'm working and perhaps can't stop to scratch their heads or rub their bellies or give them a T-R-E-A-T. (Please don't say the actual word. Then they will demand one.)

And, on really nice days, when the sun is in the sky and a cool, crisp, fall-like chill is in the air, I can sit on the front porch, perhaps with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, and enjoy the backdrop of Mother Nature as I write.

That's what I'm doing today, as a matter of fact – enjoying the cool evening as I put the finishing touches on the gazillionth draft of Blades of Grass.

So, that's where I write. Hey, other authors, where do you write?

  1. I have the house to myself for at least five hours per day during the week. You'd think that'd be a great place to write, then. But no. When I'm home I find All The Things that also need my attention (going through the bills to make sure I still can't pay them all, failing again to identify what smells so gross in the fridge, summiting Mt. St. Laundry, and so on). So, not going to lie, I sometimes go to unglamorous places like McDonald's (pretty view in Key West, though!) and hotel lobbies.
